This unusual antique mourning brooch is 15ct gold was probably converted from a shoe buckle.  It features a row of pearls around the edge, with engraved front and rear.  The front is engraved "A & AE Aug 25-09".  The rear is engraved "Mary Mundy Dec 10th 184?", the last number is covered by the pin from the time the item was converted to a brooch.

This antique piece is dated approximately 1840s.  It measures 18 mm x 11 mm and weighs 3.8 grams.
