This beautiful antique mourning locket is 18ct yellow gold and features a cabochon cut banded agate at the centre.  The locket section on the reverse side allows placement of a treasured photograph or a lock of hair.  This locket is fitted with both a pin and a loop, allowing it to be worn as either a pendant or a brooch.

The locked is dated approximately 1870s.  The reverse side bears the subtle engraving  "MARY ANN WHEELOCK. DIED FEB 21. 1874 AGED 78 YEARS."

The locket measures 31mm in diameter and weighs 15.5 grams.
