Doble History
The Doble story begins in 1918 with Arthur Golesworthy who started the business in Ottery St Mary. Later, when Arthur Golesworthy retired, Roy Golesworthy took the reins and carried on the business.
When Roy Golesworthy’s sister, Vera, married Ivor Doble in 1949 they opened a shop together. This shop was located in St Thomas, Exeter and in the early 60’s a branch was opened in Sidwell Street, Exeter.
Ivor Doble’s brother, Roy Doble opened a shop in Cambourne in the 60’s, followed by shops in Helston and Redruth, Cornwall, spreading the Doble Jewellery name further.
In the early 70’s Ivor and Vera’s Son, John Doble, opened a branch in Cowick Street, Exeter. Shortly after this Ivor Doble expanded again to open a new shop in Newton Abbot. Following his success Ivor Doble opened branches in Bristol, Torquay, Brixham and another in Exeter under the name Leymans.
In November 1981 John Doble opened a shop in Fleet Street, Torquay, which was to become his flagship store. In addition 1987 saw John opening a shop in Ottery St Mary and in 1993 Ivor Doble in Brixham was fully renovated and transferred to John, with the name changed to Doble.
Whilst the online shop is one of Doble’s newest expansions, for over 90 years and three generations the Doble family jewellery business has thrived, always striving to meet the demands and specialist needs of our customers whilst giving the assurances of a local family business.
