Frequently Asked Questions

How can I post my jewellery safely?
We recommend using Royal Mail Special Delivery, it can be insured, is delivered the next day and it requires a signature.  The basic insurance is up to £500, however for a small charge this can be increased to £2500.

What if I still don't want to post my jewellery?
If you don't feel comfortable sending jewellery through the post then you can always bring it into one of our high street stores and receive a cash offer or a part exchange offer in person.  Contact details for our stores can be found on the 'Contact' page.

Can I trust you with my jewellery?
We are a family business with experience in the jewellery trade since 1918.  We pride ourselves on our transparency and our exceptional service and you can be assured that all of our customers items are kept safely locked away.

What happens after I’ve sent you my jewellery?
Please see ‘the process’ page for an explanation of how it all works.

If you are unhappy with the amount we offer you for your jewellery simply reply to our email and let us know you want to reject our offer.  We will then happily return the items to you free of charge.  For more information on how this works see ‘the process’ page.

How do I know what carat my gold is?
Most gold has a hallmark stamped somewhere on it.  This is usually a 3 digit number.  For a key to hallmarks please see our information on hallmarks in the Myths & Truths section.

Do you buy jewellery that isn’t hallmarked?
We will buy any item that is gold or platinum.  If there is no hallmark we will acid test the item to determine the metal and its purity.

Do you buy gold plated jewellery?
We do not buy gold plated or costume jewellery, only gold or platinum.

I’m not sure if my jewellery is gold, can I still send it to you?
Yes, we will test all such items to determine the metal and its purity and then provide you with an offer accordingly, however we will not purchase items that are not gold or platinum.

Will I get more money for an antique item?
Sometimes we will give a higher price for a nice antique item, however this will be greatly dependant on the item and its condition.

If I describe my item to you can you tell me how much I can get?
Unfortunately we cannot give any prices without seeing the items.  To work out an approximate value based on the weight of the metal you can use our calculator on the Gold Prices page, however if an item is set with stones this price may vary, unlike some internet companies we often pay more for gemstones.

Do you buy watches?
We will buy any watches that are gold, however we do not buy gold plated watches.  We may be interested in non-gold watches if they are greatly sought-after brands, however we request that you contact us first to see if we are interested before sending any non-gold watches to us.

Do you only buy jewellery?
No, we will buy anything gold or platinum, this includes all items of jewellery, coins, teeth, ingots etc.

Will I get more if my jewellery is set with diamonds?
Yes, we incorporate valuable stones into our price calculations.

How much do you pay?
Our current gold and platinum prices can be found on the Gold Prices page.

How will I receive payment?
Once you have accepted our offer we will either post you a cheque, or send you a gift certificate which you can spend in our online store, the choice is yours.  For more details see The Process page.

Do you buy silver?
Unfortunately we do not buy silver by post, only gold or platinum.  However we are able to purchase silver that is brought into any of our highstreet stores.
