The Name Garnet is derived from the ancient Greek word “granatum”, meaning “pomegranate seed”. Garnet is the birthstone for January and though has a flurry of colours, When people speak of a garnet it is usually connotative of a dark red colour. Garnets are one of the few gems that depending on the type of Garnet can change colour entirely depending on the lighting, one example is a brown gem which viewed in daylight can be pink or light red when viewed under a domestic light source.
