Vintage Engraved Omega Watch

With the clock counting down to the opening of our specialist men’s watch room at our Exeter store on 10 July 2018, I have been busy sourcing key antique time pieces to sell.

Here is a sneak peak of a watch I was particularly taken with on a recent buying trip to America. It is an engraved vintage Omega gold wristwatch which was a retirement gift for Arthur R. Potts after 20 years’ service at the Heinz company. It’s a beautiful example of the Omega style and craftsmanship, circa 1947, with train track edging around the outside of the numbers on the dial and the pointed delicacy of the slim gold hands.

This watch came with its original leather strap and 9ct gold buckle with the Omega symbol forming the catch loop on the buckle, which is very rare.

The watch world has seen a growing love of engraved watches fetch high prices at auction (Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona watch sold for £13M with an engraving on the caseback from his wife ‘Drive Carefully Me’). The provenance and story of the previous owner only enhances the attraction and saleability of watches.

In a world of increasing digital gadgets it’s good to see the vintage engraved watch is on the rise as the go to expression of personal taste and style amongst men.
